Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the Sanskriti Bhavan, a multi-purpose community hall, to be built by the Department of Tribal Welfare at Mullem-Paroda in Salcete.
Present at the function were Paroda Panchayat members Paulin Fernandes, Shailesh Jotkar and Joaquim, Tribal Welfare Deputy Director Nikhil Naik, GSIDC General Manager Dilip Joshi, GSIDC Manager Sudesh Sangodkar and others.
The project, costing about Rs 2.60 crore, will have seating for 350-500 people and parking space for 30 vehicles.
Speaking at the event, Alemao said the hall was much needed in the area. “After consulting with the people, we decided to go ahead with this project. I am confident it will be completed within a year and opened for public use,” he said.
He added that once completed, the Sanskriti Bhavan will serve as a venue for cultural programmes and community events.
Alemao also said he is working to solve problems of water scarcity and flooding in Paroda. He further added that along with the Panchayat Ghar in Paroda, more development projects will be taken up.
“Development is only possible with the people’s support, and I am grateful for the cooperation I am receiving,” Alemao said.
