Saying the Saraswat Samaj has played the role of Opinion makers in Goa over the years, Goa Forward chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday said responsibility lies on the shoulders of the younger generation of the community to have the vision to take Goa forward.
He was addressing the concluding programme of the three-day Goa Saraswat Festival organised by the Goa Saraswat Samaj at the SGPDA ground, Fatorda on Sunday.
In his address, Sardesai said the Saraswat community should speak out against the evils plaguing the state, be it the cash for jobs scam, sale of Goa to outsiders etc. “The community had played a significant role in protecting the identity of Goa during the historic Opinion Poll. We should continue to play this role to protect Goa from destruction. We should not be blind followers of any political party, but our role lies in speaking the truth in the interest of Goa”, he said.
Calling upon the Samaj leader to set an agenda before the government to make Goa again, Sardesai said the “government should take the Samaj seriously in what it says than vice versa. Despite two-three per cent of the population, the Saraswat Samaj have been the opinion makers in Goa. We should continue to play the role in the interest of Goa. We should not give anyone the chance to say the Saraswats are an opportunistic community”, he added.
