Sardesai calls for unity to combat anti-secular forces in society

MARGAO

Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai advocated unity among all sections of the society to combat anti-secular forces in society.

Putting forth his viewpoint in the session on 'Patriotism, Nationalism, Humanism' at 'Abhivyakti: Dakshinayan Rashtriya Parishad' in Margao on Saturday, Sardesai lamented the fact that a split is sought to be engineered in the State on these very grounds, while stating that it is time to combat this thought.

Sardesai claimed it is wrong to dub those who oppose demonetisation as anti-nationals and those supporting it as patriots. He felt it is wrong to habour such opinions and termed such a concept as "erroneous".

The senior journalist opined that the advent of the Rs 2,000 currency note would give ample of scope for generating black money, while adding that those who may be having black money might have converted the same into fixed assets. This, Sardesai felt, will not eradicate the scourge of black money from society. He also said that those having Swiss bank accounts are now lecturing on black money and termed this incident as “unfortunate”.

On the issue of humanity, Sardesai claimed it is wrong to insult the Chief Minister of a State and went on to question as to whether this is an example of humanity. He felt if the nation has to change, then a questioning mind needs to be welcomed.

Speaking at the seminar, Swati Joshi lamented the fact that a split is sought to be engineered in the society in the name of nationalism. Education is the answer to such ills, she added.

Articulating his viewpoint, Satyendra Sonar, said it is only through progressive ideology that the nation can march ahead.
