South Goa MP, Francisco Sardinha will head a panel which will co-ordinate rural development projects funded by Central schemes in South Goa. The panel also has Rajya Sabha MP, Vinay Tendulkar as co-chairman and comprises all the legislators whose assembly segments are part of the South Goa parliamentary constituency.
The panel has been notified in the official gazette and also comprises over a dozen bureaucrats of the rank of heads of departments who will officiate as nodal officers. It has been formed on instructions contained in a July 2019 order of the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
The Development Co-ordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) ‘DISHA’ will have the South Goa Collector as member-secretary and it is tasked with monitoring and implementing programmes and schemes sponsored by the Central government and ensure that prescribed procedures and guidelines are adhered to.
The finance secretary is also on the panel as are several sarpanchas nominated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant including Arun Naik of Uguem-Sanguem, Antony D’Costa of Panchawadi-Shiroda, Pramod Gauns Dessai of Xeldem-Quepem, Snehalata Naik of Mollem-Dharbandora and Janety Cardoso e Silveira of
Guirdolim-Salcete.
Chairman of Ponda-based NGO Chanakya Foundation, Kushali Parwar as representative of Scheduled Caste Community, Vishant Gaonkar as representative of ST community and Gautami Raikar as a women’s representative have also been named on the committee which is expected to meet at least once every quarter.
