Sarpanch Santos Rebello has asserted that he cannot take cognizance of the proceedings which took place at the gram sabha after he had adjourned the meeting to November 27.
In fact, when The Goan asked the Sarpanch whether he has lodged any police complaint on the missing file or whether he has forwarded the file pertaining to the panchayat ghar-cum-sports complex to the Town and Country Planning department, Rebello said he cannot act on the so-called proceedings when he had adjourned the gram sabha. “At the gram sabha, I had adjourned the meeting since there were heated exchanges among the members. I do not know why panch member Constancio Fernandes could chair the meeting when it was already adjourned by me. Hence, if Constancio had decided to lodge a police complaint and forward the file to the TCP, I cannot take cognizance of this decision since I had already adjourned the gram sabha,” he added.
The sarpanch had adjourned the gram sabha after heated exchanges ensued over the issue of construction of the panchayat ghar-cum-sports complex at the meeting. Chinchinim villages are divided over the project that should come up on the land acquired near the cemetery five years ago for the purpose of constructing a panchayat ghar-cum-market complex, with a section of villagers demanding a panchayat ghar-cum-sports complex on the acquired land.
