PANAJI: The principal and a teacher of Deep Vihar Higher Secondary School visited the residence of deceased student Rahul Bind on Sunday to offer condolences. However, the grieving parents refused to accept their apology and demanded strict action against those responsible for their 16-year-old son’s death.
While confronting the principal on Sunday, the student’s mother questioned the school management over alleged negligence and mismanagement during the trekking activity, saying that an apology would not bring her son back. “My son was a bright student with a promising future and alleged that the school failed to ensure his safety during the excursion,” said the mother.
The family further stated that they will soon meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who is also the Education Minister and seek a thorough investigation into Rahul’s death.
According to the family, the school had collected Rs 700 from each student for the excursion, during which activities were organised at three different locations.
The family also questioned whether proper parental consent had been obtained before students were taken for such activities, stressing that parents should be informed and give permission before children participate in trekking or other potentially risky activities.
