Strong winds and heavy rains caused considerable damage and disrupted services and traffic in many parts of Sattari taluka on Saturday evening.
A number of houses were damaged, trees uprooted, power supply disrupted, and traffic affected in many places. Traffic was disrupted for about three hours after trees were uprooted and fell at several locations on the Valpoi-Honda road. Traffic was also disrupted for about an hour as the road in front of the Valpoi Community Health Centre became inundated with rainwater.
A tree fell on a shed near a temple in Bhuipal-Sattari, while another came crashing down on the house of Nilesh Bhamaikar in Advalpal-Sattari. Several trees also fell on the road at Pali-Sattari. Power supply was disrupted in many areas as trees came crashing down on electricity wires. Electricity department linemen worked till late at night to repair the damaged wires and restore power supply to the affected areas. Repair and restoration work is expected to continue on Sunday. According to the Sattari Deputy Collector’s office, the talathis will conduct a survey of the affected areas and submit their reports on the damages and losses in the taluka.
