Sattari paddy crop cultivators fear extensive loss

VALPOI
After areca nuts production was impacted by incessant rain, Sattari cultivators have expressed their deep concern over the damage of paddy crops. They fear the crop will not survive if rains continue to pour.
Farmers from Thane, Koparde, Hivrem, Nagargao, Sonal, Keri, Honda, Guleli and many other villages are anxious about damage to their cultivation. The paddy cultivation is ready for reaping, but due to the rains, this process may be delayed for another 15 days, which could damage the cultivation more. Paddy is seen fallen in many fields.
Speaking to The Goan, a paddy cultivator Yeshawant Sawant from Koparde expressed concern over damages in the cultivation.
"It's raining continuously for the last 15 days in Koparde area, raising anxiety among the cultivators and the agriculture department
should seriously consider this issue for loss recovery," he demanded.
When contacted, Valpoi agriculture officer Prakash Raut admitted continuous rains in this area, which will definitely lead to losses in paddy cultivation.
"Complaints have been received from many areas regarding damage to crops and I have told them to register their respective complaints by submitting applications along with photographs. After receiving such complaints, matter will be referred to higher authorities for sanction,"
he said.
