Sarpanchas in Sattari taluka were reassured that the authority of panchayats would not be diluted while sanctioning funds for development works.
This was conveyed to the sarpanchas at a meeting in the Sattari BDO office to brief them on the new system of sanctioning projects proposed by the panchayats.
Technical Cell Executive Engineer Arun Naik, Assistant Engineer Vasant Parab, Sattari BDO Suryajirao Rane and other officials were present at the meeting and provided their inputs
to the sarpanchas. The officials sought to dispel the misconception that panchayats would be denied authority under the new system, adding that the government has fully supported panchayats and development of the villages.
The officials informed that under the earlier system, approval was needed from the PWD for a panchayat’s proposal to sanction funds for any development work.“This would create problems at many levels and the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) would receive frequent complaints. Under the new system, proposals submitted by each Panchayat will be sent to the DoP through the BDO concerned and it would be considered quickly,” said Technical Cell Executive Engineer Arun Naik.
He said the new policy is beneficial to expedite sanction funds for development projects.“Efforts are being made by the government to provide funds to a large number of panchayats and changes have been made to avoid administrative hurdles while sanctioning the funds,” he added.Sattari BDO Suryajirao Rane said it was necessary for these benefits to reach all villages in Sattari taluka.
