Amidst growing concerns of irregular and muddy water supply, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday admitted on the floor of the House there was problem of supply in some places and assured to look into the matter.
The chief minister also informed the House that 24x7 water supply could be possible in the State in 2025, only if all steps towards the goal work as per the plan.
“There is shortage of water in some places. We will look into the matter and find ways to restore supply at the earliest,” said Sawant, while responding to concerns of ruling and opposition members.
St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes raised the issue of pipeline water to residents of Kadamba Plateau.
“The issue of scarcity of water supply in Kadamba Plateau has been lingering for the last two-and-half years. Residents face acute problem and come begging to me for solution,” Fernandes said, adding, “The government says it will supply water to people of Goa 24x7. I ask for only three hours of proper water supply.”
PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar informed that work on augmentation of water supply was going on and was expected to be completed by December 2019.
The St Cruz MLA was not convinced and sought assurance from the CM that PWD will supply water through tankers to the residents till December.
GFP MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar informed that people of Saligao were getting supply on alternate days and sometimes if they don’t get supply on that alternate day they didn’t get water for three days at a stretch.
“Even when I was a minister, the answer I used to get is my constituency is at the tail end and therefore, the problem. We are having acute water problem in the village,” Salgaonkar said.
Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo joined the chorus stating people from his constituency also did not get proper water supply.
Sawant informed the St Cruz MLA that government will restore normal supply to Kadamba Plateau in December but till then assured to send PWD tankers to the area. He also assured the Saligao MLA to look into the scarcity of water supply in his constituency.
