SAYS BJP’S DOORS ARE OPEN FOR PRE-POLL ALLIANCE WITH MGP

Goa BJP election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis gave his thumbs up to Pramod Sawant as the party’s chief ministerial face at the 2020 assembly election.

Fadnavis, while speaking to The Goan, stated that Sawant has evolved over time as a strong leader making him the most acceptable chief ministerial candidate after elections.

When questioned about speculation on the party high command contemplating a leadership change, he said, there is no basis for such a move.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis played down the ongoing fiery exchanges between Sawant and MGP senior leader Sudin Dhavalikar and said BJP’s doors are open for an alliance.

“We have not slammed the door on MGP, and if the party is willing we can take the alliance talks forward,” Fadnavis told The Goan, adding that his instincts tell him that Sudin would do a “rethink” on forging a pre-poll electoral alliance.

The former Maharashtra chief minister also acknowledged that Sudin personally met him and held discussions on an array of topics ranging from alliance to other political issues. “Sudin is a friend and has been in touch occasionally, we have been sharing good camaraderie for long,” he said.

Asked on how he places BJP in the current political churn with TMC throwing itself into the fray, Fadnavis stated that the ground situation is very favourable to them since the Opposition parties will only be splitting individual votes.

The party’s emissary to Goa appeared unruffled over resentment within sections of the party and leaders sometimes raising voices against the party line. “Troubleshooting exercise has been undertaken, and there is complete clarity now,” was his retort.

“As long as there is one line of command, and not too many leaders speaking out of turn,” the situation would be manageable and the party would not face any hurdles.
