PANAJI: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday underplayed the impact of the mining imbroglio on the prospects of the Bharatiya Janata Party, especially in the Sanquelim Assembly segment.
Dr Sawant also played down the comments of Power Minister Nilesh Cabral who had on Tuesday said that it would be "difficult to convince" people to support the BJP in the backdrop of the mining issue.
Sawant said although the mining issue has impacted people's livelihoods, it will not affect their perception, specially in his constituency, toward BJP in the upcoming lok sabha election.
“I have tried to give some relief to people affected due to mining. They will not change their perception towards BJP”, he said.
Cabral had on Tuesday said: "People don’t judge governments by looking at the brigdges. Their livelihood issue should be solved.”
Sawant meanwhile said: "what Cabral feels is his personal view."
He further said through the Investment Promotion Board the lot of employment will be generated in the next one year. Mopa Airport will give more employment to the youths. The fruits of the development work done by government will be seen in next years.
People should be positive and wait to see the result of government work, he said.
He further said that central government has initiated a procedure to auction mining leases and hoped that positive result will come in couple of days.
