Sawant tried to push entertainment zone project at Dhargal: Ajgaonkar

PANAJI

Accusing Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of trying to push through the entertainment zone project at Dhargal in his Pernem constituency despite opposition from locals, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar said he had opposed the proposal of the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) at the cabinet meeting.

Speaking to reporters, Ajgaonkar claimed that the proposal said these projects would create a nuisance to his constituency.

“The local panchayat and people were not taken into confidence about the project and the chief minister tried to push through the project despite opposition. People are now opposing the project,” said Ajgaonkar.

“I had told Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also chairman of IPB, not to grant permission for the project, but the CM overlooked my request and passed the project.”

“The IPB’s decision came before the cabinet for final approval and I opposed it. This proposal has been deferred by the Chief Minister after my objection, as I told the cabinet that we need to study the proposal.”

Ajgaonkar openly expressed his anguish after he was not assured of the BJP ticket in the Pernem constituency.

"What wrong have I done, why was I kept aside,” asked Ajgaonkar.
