Saxtti Masala

Diggu’s opponents in the commercial capital suddenly turned upbeat around Thursday noon when news tricked that North Goa Sessions Court has issued a non-bailable warrant against him in the Louis Berger bribery scandal.

Digambar’s opponents’ joy short-lived

The social media in particular was abuzz with the news that the long arm of the law has finally caught up with the former Chief Minister. Their joy, however, was short-lived when realisation dawned on the over enthusiastic opponents that the court order was only a non-bailable warrant for non-appearance in the court and has nothing to do with the main Louis Berger case. Diggu had in the past had weathered many a storm in the last two years post-Louis Berger and mining scam and his lawyers must have handled with ease before moving the court for cancellation of the warrant. Any questions?

Vijai learning the hard way
Once beaten, twice shy, so goes the saying. Chief Minister Manoharbhai had learnt the bitter experience in the past for announcing before the media deadlines on completion of public utility projects. His TCP minister and once bitter rival, the irrepressible Vijaibab Sardesai appears to have suddenly realised how risky it is to set deadlines for the execution and completion of public utility projects. Earlier this week, Vijajbab was heard taking objection to the media report exposing him on his failure to complete a project within a set deadline. Vijaibab told the media that he is not going to set any deadline in the future with the media not ready to give him any breathing space to complete his pet projects. Manoharbhai had adopted a similar stand during his previous term. Will the irrepressible Vijaibab, who does not hesitate to call spade a spade, follow suit and avoid the media? Time will tell.

Mickky predicts mid-term Assembly polls
Flamboyant Mickkybab is one politician from Saxttidom who apparently thinks that the State is heading for mid-term election for the Goa Legislative Assembly, not in 2019 as is being widely perceived, but in the near future. Well, the former Tourism Minister in Manoharbhai cabinet in 2002, who has come under the scanner of his political opponents in the ongoing election for the panchayat bodies, says with confidence that there isn’t going to be any by-poll either for the Panaji seat or Valpoi constituency in the next six months. He has been telling the media as well as his close friends and aides that the Assembly may be dissolved after the election for the lone Rajya Sabha seat and the coming Presidential election. Wait and watch whether Mickkybab’s prediction will come true or not when people such as Goa Forward supremo Vijaibab goes around the town asserting that Parrikar-led government has come to stay for a long, long time.

Girish on a new role
Will his presence in Goa help the Congress to launch an offensive  against the saffron brigade? It is learnt that he shares a perfect  rapport with newly-appointed Goa desk incharge, Chella Kumar. If Manoharbab Parrikar has finally returned to Goa after shuttling between Panaji and Delhi during the last two years, AICC secretary Girishbab Chodankar seemed to be also back in his home state after a six-year stint in-charge of Congress national students organization - NSUI. Girishbab had been literally shuttling between Goa and Delhi since the last six years ever since Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi appointed him as the NSUI in-charge. Sources said his stint is expected to end soon and Girishbab seemed to have returned home for good. That explains why Girishbab is seen around and had been the lone voice taking on the government headed by Manoharbhai in the last two months. It is an open secret that Girishbab shares a perfect rapport with newly-appointed Goa desk in-charge, Dr Chella Kumar. It remains to be seen what role he plays in the Congress scheme of things. Wait and watch.

ESG gets ‘Bollywood touch’
Who’s this Xavier Marcus, who finds a place in the newly-constituted Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) headed by film maker, Rajendrabab Talak? He is none other than Xavier Marquesbab, the Bollywood producer and TCP Minister Vijaibab Sardesai’s close friend. Based in Mumbai, Marquesbab has been a frequent visitor to Goa and is a prominent guest at social and cultural programmes. Vijaibab made no bones of his close association with Marquesbab, and the fact that he has got him inducted on the ESG, saying though the Bollywood producer is based in Mumbai, he has roots in Goa and right in his backyard at Borda in Fatorda constituency. Friends in need are friends indeed.
