PANAJI: A 54-year-old high school peon, Premanand Shankar Gawade, was arrested for allegedly assaulting four minor children who were playing football on the school ground in Ponda on Sunday afternoon.
As per sources, the children, from another school had gone to play football on the high school field in the afternoon. Gawade, who was present at the time, suddenly approached the children and began throwing stones at them. He also hit them with slippers.
Total eight children were playing on the field. While four ran away, the others were allegedly beaten by Gawade. In addition, the bicycles of two of the children were damaged.
The children who managed to escape informed their parents, who quickly arrived at the scene. The injured children were treated at a hospital and later sent home. Gawade was arrested after a formal complaint was filed at the Ponda police station. Police investigation is on
