A scooter rider from Sancoale died after being knocked down by a truck near Goan Maharaja Hotel at Verna on Tuesday evening.
According to a complaint filed by Verna Police Head Constable Umesh Naik, the accident took place at about 6.55 pm, when Chanabasappa Godachi, a native of Belagavi but residing at New Vaddem, Vasco, was reportedly driving the truck from Pirni Junction towards the Titan Junction.
The truck rammed into a scooter from behind, knocking down the rider, Rajesh Naik, who was grievously injured and later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at GMC hospital in Bambolim.
Verna police later arrested the truck driver under Sections 281 and 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After an autopsy, Verna police later handed over the body to the family for final rites.
PSI Pramila Fernandes conducted the investigation under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
