A 75-year-old man from Aldona was seriously injured when he was knocked down by a jeep carrying goods at Bastora on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the accident took place at about 10 am, when Tommy Fernandes was travelling from Aldona to Mapusa via Moira and Bastora on his scooter. A cargo jeep was proceeding in the same direction.
The jeep driver, Maruti Jadhav of Tivim suddenly tried to overtake another vehicle near Belekar Hall when his jeep struck the scooter.
Fernandes sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was moved to the Mapusa District Hospital in an ambulance, from where he was referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim for further treatment. Mapusa police are conducting further investigations.
