Overall pass percentage has come down from 80.67% to 71.89%

The overall pass percentage of all the HSS last year was 80.67 per cent which has come down to 71.89 per cent this year. Nonetheless, the number of students who were sponsored by these schools has increased compared to last year.
However, the performance of only Government Multipurpose HSS, Borda, Margao has seen an increase in the pass percentage with over three per cent.
Last year had witnessed three HSS “ Government HSS, Canacona; Government HSS, Pernem and Government HSS, Khandola -- securing pass percentage of 90 per cent and above. This year, only Government HSS, Pernem, has secured more than 90 per cent pass percentage, with 100 per cent pass percentage in the Science stream.
The lowest pass percentage is that of Government HSS, Baina, Vasco with 39.31 per cent. Nonetheless, 1,798 students appeared for the HSSC examination through the nine HSS of which only 1,327 managed to clear the exam.
Commenting on the performance, Education Director Gajanan Bhat said, “The main reason for the performance going down is that government HSS are the last option resorted to by students when it comes to admissions. So we have no other choice, but to admit all the students.”
Another educationist said that most aided HSS have cut-off percentage and they refuse to admit average students. “The popular HSS have cut-off percentage and average and below average students have no other choice but to seek admission in government HSS,” he said.
