Section 39A agitation echoes at Nehru Stadium

FC Goa supporters display ‘Scrap 39A’ placards in the northern stand during the ISL match at Nehru Stadium, Margao, on Thursday.

MARGAO
A wave of public anger over the controversial Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act reached the Nehru Stadium on Thursday evening.

During the Indian Super League (ISL) match between hosts FC Goa and Sporting Club Delhi, a group of football fans used the high-profile game to express their opposition to the provision.

From the northern stand, the supporters displayed a large banner reading “SCRAP 39A”, sending a strong message in support of the protest against the section. The banner quickly caught the attention of the packed stadium and drew applause from many spectators.

The incident showed that the agitation has spread beyond political and civic groups, finding support even among Goa’s football community.
