Emphasises need for constructive dialogue, mutual respect to address problems

Strongly objecting to attempts to silence dissent, Chicalim Parish Priest Fr Bolmax Pereira has, instead, emphasised the need to have constructive dialogue and mutual respect to address the problems faced by people.
“I express my deep concern and dismay over the selective targeting and harassment of ordinary Goan citizens who raised their voices to express their legitimate grievances and concerns regarding hurtful utterances,” Fr Pereira told The Goan.
“It is the duty of those in power to protect the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution. Unfortunately, it is observed that certain citizens are being unfairly targeted, intimidated, and silenced. Such actions not only undermine the spirit of democracy but also create an environment of fear and oppression.”
Strongly objecting “to this pattern of selective targeting”, Fr Pereira said it threatens the right of every citizen to voice their opinions without fear of retribution.
“Silencing dissent is not the answer to addressing the problems faced by the people. Rather, constructive dialogue and mutual respect must guide our path forward,” he said.
“I appeal to the home minister to cease any actions that intimidate or penalise citizens for exercising their rights. I also urge a renewed commitment from Goan citizens and authorities to fostering open dialogue, where the voices of the people are heard and valued, not silenced,” Fr Bolmax added.
