Senior police official Hemant M Nimbalkar, who was involved in busting an international drug-peddling racket linked to Goa which led to drugs worth Rs 22 crore being seized in Belagavi in May 2007, has taken over additional charge as ADGP Intelligence from Friday.

Hemant M Nimbalkar, IPS, who is serving as Commissioner, Department of Information & Public Relations, Karnataka, will take over additional charge as ADGP Intelligence from K V Sharthchandra who among other senior IPS officers have been transferred.

ADGP Nimbalkar has previously served in various key positions in the police department of Karnataka. He was appointed Commissioner of Information and Public Relations in June 2023. Earlier, he held various posts including Belagavi SP, Joint Commissioner (CCB) Bangalore, Additional Commissioner (East), Additional Commissioner (Administration) and CID IGP. He was promoted to the rank of ADGP in January 2024 while he continued to be the Commissioner of Information Department.

As Superintendent of Police, Belagavi, the officer was involved in busting an international drug-peddling racket linked to Goa in May 2007, wherein marijuana worth Rs 22 crore was seized and four persons including a Goan were arrested.
