Medical superintendent says patient died of complications, denies oxygen shortage claims
MARGAO
Medical Superintendent of the South Goa District Hospital, Dr Rajendra Borkar, on Saturday said that there was no neglect by the doctors or nurses in the death of 69-year-old patient Jagdish Jamuni.
Asserting that all necessary care was provided to the patient when he was admitted in the district hospital at 12.45 am on August 7, Dr Borkar categorically stated there was no short supply of oxygen as claimed by the relatives of the deceased. “All the beds in the district hospital are being provided oxygen through central oxygen line with liquid medical oxygen. Besides, we have a PSA plan and oxygen trollies to meet any emergencies,” he asserted, while terming the claims of negligence as false and defamatory.
Giving details on the episode, Dr Borkar said the patient was admitted in the district hospital on July 10. “The patient was discharged on request on July 11 since relatives did not want to wait till proper bed was made available. Our information reveals that the patient was treated in a private hospital for quite some time and was referred to the district hospital as a case of uncontrolled diabetes and other ailments,” he said.
Dr Borkar said he was personally coordinating with officials of the private hospital for a smooth transfer of the patient to the district hospital since the morning of August 6 after a request was made to admit the patient in the hospital. While the patient was admitted at 12.45 am on August 7, Dr Borkar said the patient died due to disease complications on the same day at 11.25 pm, asserting there was no negligence behind the patient’s death as claimed by the relatives.
