Even as Fisheries Director Dr Shamila Monteiro has claimed that screening of migrant workers at the Cutbona fishing jetty is in full swing, questions are raised whether similar exercise is being conducted on the Mobor side of the River Sal, which plays host to migrant workers employed on fishing vessels.

Cavelossim village Sarpanch Dixon Vaz  has demanded to know from the Fisheries Director as well as from Health officials whether the government has arranged any facility for the screening of migrant workers employed on the fishing vessels operating from Mobor.

The sarpanch said all isn’t well on the hygiene and sanitation front at Mobor where fishing vessels are docked for loading and unloading operations. “I had conducted a surprise inspection of the jetties operating in an unauthorised manner at Mobor. I am unhappy over the cleanliness put in place by the owners,” he said.

Reminding the government that Cavelossim-Mobor belt is a tourism belt, playing host to a number of starred resorts and hotels, Dixon has appealed to the Fisheries and Health departments to take immediate measurers to avoid repetition of last year’s incidents.
