The Goa Congress on Friday hit out at the ruling BJP and its allies saying that the party has shown its colours of being an anti-minority party.
Speaking to media persons, party president Shantaram Naik while hitting out at the party has called for a CBI probe into the incidents of desecrations in the light of the fact finding report by an independent church-backed body.
"When nuns were raped, chapels destroyed, bibles burnt, priests were murdered, where were you? Did you raise your voice against these elements? BJP has shown its colours of being anti-minority," Shantaram said.
"I want to ask the minority MLAs why is the BJP playing a cat and mouse game with the community," Shantaram said.
"Cabral got irritated when BJP rule was compared to Nazi rule in Germany but in some proportion it is not less than Nazi rule. Here in Goa Sadhvi Saraswati made an open statement that beef eaters should be killed and their bodies should be publicly displayed. The BJP did not condemn and did not even lodge an FIR which showed its true colour as far as minorities are concerned," Naik said while condemning the statements of Cabral.
Shantaram also sought that the probe into the desecrations should be handed over to the CBI.
"I have nothing against the Goa Police but they operate in a particular set of circumstances. I will also be writing to the (Union) Home Minister with a request to institute a CBI probe in the matter," Naik said.
"There is total confusion in the minds of the people of various communities, in view of this the probe needs to be handed over to the CBI," Naik said. Adding his bit, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo said that the BJP's ploy to make a Catholic speak against
the church was the biggest polarisation attempt by the saffron party.
