Former Chief Minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Sunday said that former Congress MLA Subhash Shirodkar has taken people for granted and hence he should be defeated.

Digambar was speaking at the Youth Congress Samvad at Shiroda organised by the Shiroda unit of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).

Former Chief Minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, National Youth Congress coordinator Ehsaan Khan, Youth Congress President Varadh Mardolkar,  Bethora Sarpanch Sushant Gaonkar and others were present on the occasion.

Digambar Kamat said that though Shirodkar lost twice, Congress gave him a ticket. But nobody dreamt that he would leave the Congress party and join the BJP.

“I felt very bad. He betrayed the people who trusted him. BJP for personal gains and to remain in power has stooped to such level of politics,” Kamat said while hitting out at BJP.

He also said that Shirodkar has taken the people for granted and hence he should be defeated. “Let anyone win, but Shirodkar should be defeated,” Kamat said before hastening to add that a Congress candidate should win.

“Everyone knows how this government is running and how the people of Goa are suffering. Hence, during this by-election it is time to elect Congress candidates,” he said.

Other Congress leaders also targeted the BJP for pulling Shirodkar from Congress.

Varadh Mardolkar said that the traitors who joined BJP after resigning from the Congress should be taught a lesson. “BJP has failed to create jobs. It was Congress who had brought industries in Goa,” Mardolkar said.

Ehsaan Khan accused the NDA government of failing to curb inflation. “Narendra Modi has failed to bring back black money and also to provide jobs,” he said.

Girish Chodankar termed Shirodkar as a ‘gaddar’ and appealed to the people to defeat him. “Both the persons from Mandrem and Shiroda who have betrayed us should be taught a lesson,” Chodankar said.
