MARGAO: Margao and the immediate neighbourhood celebrated Shiv Jayanti on Tuesday with the followers of the Maratha warrior king taking out a colourful procession from the Gogol Housing Board and culminating at the SAG Gorounds in Fatorda.
On the occasion, a statue of Shivaji Maharaj was installed at the Gogol Temple before the procession.
TCP Minister, Vijai Sardesai, besides Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco were also present at the starting point of the procession, which falls in Curtorim cosnttiuency.
The procession later wend its way through the communally sensitive Rumdamol Housing Borda, where the Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer DySP Raju Raut Desai had made elaborate security arrangements as a precautionary measure.
The procession later wend its way to Maruti Temple and later headed towards the Bolshe traffic junction on the Eastern bypass, before culminating at the SAG grounds, Fatorda.
Unlike in the past, the police and the district authorities diverted the procession from entering into Margao city.
Instead, the procession was diverted via the Bolshe junction.
