The district electoral officer’s action comes in the wake of a fiat received from the Election Commission of India seeking an explanation on the lapse that resulted in the re-poll.
When contacted, Swapnil confirmed that his office has issued a show-cause notice. “Once my office receives the explanation from the presiding officer, the same will be forwarded to the Chief Electoral officer for further action,” he said.
Sources said the EC is likely to initiate action against the presiding officer, Gokuldas P Naik based on the report of the local election office.
