Signature drive for land rights begins in Sattari

VALPOI
A drive to collect signatures of people seeking land ownership rights has begun in Sattari and they will be submitted to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

This was decided by representatives of various villages in Sattari at a meeting in the Velus temple on Sunday.

They claimed that people in Sattari taluka had been denied land ownership rights since liberation and said a protest rally was also staged in Valpoi on January 26 to push for the said rights.

Among the many resolutions passed during this protest rally was a signature campaign to be conducted in every village of Sattari taluka.

A meeting to review this signature campaign was convened at the Velus temple on Sunday and many representatives said the response had been good in various villages.

Rajesh Gaonkar, who is spearheading the campaign, said the signatures collected would be submitted to the chief minister on Saturday.

He denounced political interference in the campaign and said the people had been suffering in the absence of land ownership rights since the last 60 years.

Adv Ganpat Gaonkar said the successful protest rally in Valpoi on January 26 had proved the time was right to push for land ownership.
