CANACONA: Canacona Police and the Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized silver and yellow metal worth about Rs 46 lakh at the Polem border check post on Friday.

The bags contained silver and yellow metal jewellery worth about Rs 46 lakh. The jewellery neatly packed in packets contained about 1,000 earrings, finger rings, bracelets kadda, neckacles and others items.
Later in the day, Returning Officer Canacona Kedar Naik and the election expenditure observer visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
All the items were handed over to the sales tax officials, who also rushed to the border check post.
Speaking to The Goan, Canacona PI Philomeno Costa said all the vehicles entering Goa via Polem border would be checked and scrutinised. “There is every possibility that similar costly items and other things may find its way to Goa ahead of the polls,” he said.
