The Special Investigation Team (Land Grab) is set to begin a preliminary inquiry into allegations of illegal subdivision and sale of a property in Morjim.
The officials are examining allegations made by co-owners of the property, measuring 1,80,925 sq metres, urging an investigation into the role of M/s GCA GHAI Infrastructure Limited, M/s Irap Infra LLP, the local panchayat, and the TCP, among others, for the alleged land grab.
“M/s GCA has fraudulently executed a sale deed in respect of the property with some purported owners without the consent of the undersigned (complainants) who are the actual owners of the property. Based on such fraudulent and illegal documents, the company has further entered into an agreement with M/s Irap and further illegally subdivided the property into plots,” reads an extract of the complaint copy submitted to the Vigilance Department, the SIT, and the Mandrem Police Station.
Devu Shetgaonkar, among the 32 complainants, stated that the property has been illegally granted permission to be divided into various plots for sale without due consent from the original owners.
“It is clear that persons who have sold the property claiming to be the exclusive owners, the purchaser of the property M/s GCA and M/s Irap who have entered into a development agreement, have all conspired together and illegally attempted to grab the land and further cheated (the complainants),” it added, demanding an FIR and criminal investigation.
The complainants have also sought action against the Village Panchayat of Morjim and Town and Country Planning (TCP) for allegedly granting permission to the accused without verification.
The Goan spoke to a senior officer in the SIT who revealed that a preliminary inquiry will be conducted into the allegations by the complainants.
“Any further action, including FIR, will be decided only after the findings of the preliminary inquiry. We are currently examining the complaint,” the officer said.
