The skeletal remains of person believed to be a girl was found on the slope of a hill at Ambeghat Mangal in Quepem taluka on Thursday.
The body was found in a highly decomposed state and was reportedly wrapped in a white colour plastic bag.
Immediately on receiving information that a body had been found at Ambeghat-Mangal, a Quepem police team led by PI Deepak Pednekar, PSI Veronica Coutinho, fingerprint experts and officials from the forensic department rushed to the spot for investigation.
Police sources informed a multi-coloured nylon bag which had some clothes stacked in it was found near the body.
The body is found within the precincts of the wildlife sanctuary and any person reaching the site would have had to cross two gates of the forest department, one at Netravali and other at Ambeghat, informed sources.
The body has been sent to Hospicio Hospital at Margao for further investigation.
