A cyber fraud racket that preyed on gullible mobile users through fake parcel delivery messages has been busted by the Crime Branch with the arrest of a 38-year-old man from Odisha.
The arrest was made following a complaint by a Goa Velha resident alleging he was cheated of Rs 85,238.47 after receiving a fake text message claiming a reattempt for delivery of a DTDC parcel, which contained a fraudulent link.
An offence was registered by the Crime Branch on December 27, 2025, under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66-D of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and 2008, Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Rahul Gupta said.
During the investigation, a Crime Branch team travelled to Odisha and apprehended Susanta Bhue. He was brought to Goa on transit remand and arrested for the offense.
“Analysis of the accused’s mobile phone revealed that he was using a bulk SMS facility to send phishing messages to individuals across the country. Messages related to honey trapping, credit card reward points, gaming platform payouts and part-time job offers were also found on the device,” the SP said. The accused has been remanded to police custody till January 8.
