SMC cancels tendering of 7 civic shops

Citizens demanding cancellation of closed tender process of Sanguem Municipality owned shops.

SANGUEM

Alleging a faulty tender process, some citizens from Sanguem led by former councillors Sandesh Kossambe and Sanjay Raikar compelled the Chief Officer of Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) to cancel the tender process of seven municipal owned shops which was scheduled this week.

The aggrieved citizens raised concerns over the closed tender process being followed by the SMC and called on tendering the shops in an open auction.

A citizen Josinho Dcosta informed that through closed tenders, the SMC gets every opportunity to allot shops to the person of its choice as the tenders remain in exclusive custody of the council.

Moreover, in a closed tender process, the municipality loses prospects of higher revenue as against open tenders, he added.

Incidentally, one citizen questioned the council for putting up his shop for tender process without him surrendering the shop back to the council.

After hearing the grievances advanced by the citizens, who were accompanied by former Councillors Sandesh Kossambe and Sanjay Raikar, SMC Chief Officer Bhagwant Karmali cancelled the tender process for the time being after consultation with higher authorities.
