Social activist claims RTI not furnished despite payment

VASCO

Social activist Tara Kerkar on Friday accused Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) officials of not furnishing her details under RTI despite making the necessary payments.
Speaking to reporters, Kerkar alleged that MMC officials did not want to provide details amid fears that she may expose wrongdoings in the council.
"I had filed an RTI application on March 2 and had sought files to enquire about some financial issue. Ideally, they should have furbished the details by April but that did not happen.”
“I met various officials but they only made excuses saying that the official concerned was not well and not in office.”
“After I made a noise, they finally sent me a letter to make a payment of Rs 142 after the time frame lapsed. It has been one month since I made the payment, but I am yet to get the details and when I enquired again, they are giving excuses. I feel they may be afraid that I may expose some wrongdoing," said Kerkar.
