Even as Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai announced a scheme to turn the barren Ambaji hillock green with the plantation of hybrid cashew saplings, Revolutionary Goans descended in a paddy field at Fatorda as part of a day long field activity “Ek Dis Xetaan”.
Captain Virato Fernandes of Goencho Avaaz, Manoj Parab of Revolutionary Goans, activist Zarinha Da Cunha and 23 other social activists descended in the paddy field belonging to Antonio Braganza admeasuring 6000 square meters to prepare the land for paddy plantation.
During break time, the group enjoyed the traditional Goan pezz, torr and khaare.
Manoj Parab said the 25 Goemkars who participated in the activity also sowed the locality variety rice after preparing the land for cultivation.
“After this season of paddy, we will grow vegetables in the field. And, most importantly, we don’t use any chemicals. Its fully organic and natural”, he added.
Revolutionary Goans have made a fervent plea to all Goans not to sell their fields. “Lets grow our Goan food and be self sufficient again”, he said, while saying that the Revolutionary Goans will certainly try their best to get more youths into commercial farming.
