The Save Old Goa Action Committee (SOGAC) renewed its demand for a Master Plan for Old Goa to protect the heritage sites, including the UNESCO monuments.
Speaking to reporters at Azad Maidan on Saturday, SOGAC coordinator Peter Viegas issued yet another warning that they would hit the street if their demands are not met.
Viegas said that they have been demanding Master Plan for Old Goa since long back and the issue again surfaced at the ongoing Assembly session in which the TCP Minister said that there is no need of Master Plan as existing laws are more than enough to protect the monuments.
“But it’s been noticed that various projects like the heritage interpretation centre, Old Goa police station, garbage treatment plant and others are continuing to be approved which shows that a Master Plan is the need of the hour,” Viegas opined.
He further pointed that various heritage zones around the monuments do not reflect in the Regional Plan, which is a cause of concern. “Areas around the monuments are shown as settlement,” he informed and demanded that a proper Master Plan be prepared with the help of expert persons.
“If our demand for Master Plan is not met then we will hit the streets,” Viegas warned.
When pointed out that such warnings have been given by SOGAC in the past as well, Viegas said that this time they will go ahead with it.
