MARGAO
With the Margao Municipal Council struggling to manage the garbage imbroglio at Sonsodo, Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dashed off a letter to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to convene a meeting of the High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) to find a solution.
The Curtorim MLA has underscored the need to take the various stakeholders into confidence before going about the job of finding a permanent solution.
In the letter, the Curtorim MLA drew the attention of the Chief Minister that it is imperative that feedback is taken from all stakeholders in order to find a permanent solution on the Sonsodo garbage dump.
In this context, Reginaldo has requested the Chief Minister to convene a HPCC meeting at the earliest.
He sought to remind the Chief Minister that the meeting of the HPCC under his Chairmanship consisting of the Ministers, the MLAs, concerned department officials, etc has not met for the past many months to discuss the situation at Sonsodo. “Hence conveying of HPCC on the Sonsodo garbage issue immediately is the need of the hour,” he said.
Reginaldo’s request to the Chief Minister assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of reports that no treatment of the waste is taking place at the Sonsodo waste management shed and the MMC is just dumping the daily wet waste inside the shed.
