PANAJI
Panaji and a large part of Porvorim, Old Goa, Taleigao and Dona Paula are to be mapped as part of preparation for the Geographic Information System (GIS) plans for 500 towns selected from across the country.
The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Corporation Limited (IPSCDL) has recently floated a tender to select an agency to prepare the detailed GIS base plan.
"Around 15 agencies have participated in the pre-bid exercise. We expect many other agencies to respond to the bid and the agency will be selected soon", said a technical official from IPSCDL.
Panaji and its suburbs are among 500 towns selected under this mission and a detailed GIS plan of around 91.675 sq. kms of Panaji and surrounding areas will be prepared through the selected agency.
The agency will update ground details such as road names, buildings, type of building and commercial activities in the commercial buildings.
These details will be updated on 3D maps provided by National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) based on satellite images. Besides, electricity underground cable positions, gas pipeline, water pipeline and trees will also be mapped at a later stage.
Such GIS maps will help town planners while giving approvals to new building projects and to ascertain which projects are suited for a particular area.
The mapping will done under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation AMRUT project of the central government to prepare the Online Building Permission System (OBPS).
