Despite the financial constraints the economy faced last year, Budget 2020 has laid a sound roadmap for the education sector, said Dr Manasvi M Kamat, writer and columnist.

Setting targets on acquiring life skills and securing employability, the total allocation for education has seen an increase of Rs4,500 crore compared to the last budget. Out of the above, Rs3,000 crore has been allocated for skill development and is a remarkable step.

The proposal to have at least one medical college in each district, more sets for DNB/FNB (higher educational avenue for doctors), New National Police University and National Forensic Science and Cyber-forensic University is welcome.   The ‘Study India’ programme has also received a big boost. The focus on apprentice, digital mode for degree education, and internship-embedded educational programmes is a major achievement.
