Beleaguered employees of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades look forward to the government bailing them out as a year has passed since the 25-odd employed had received their monthly salaries.
In fact, the Comunidade employees are yet to receive their salaries of the last one year, as they were made to go without monthly salaries for want of any grant from the government.
The employees had pinned their hopes on Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate after they took up their cause with her six months ago after she took over the reigns of the Revenue portfolio in July last. Their hopes of receiving their salaries on the eve of Diwali and Christmas were also dashed.
As CM Pramod Sawant braces to present the financial budget, Comunidade employees have been trying to figure out whether the government will work out a package for them with a special grant to clear their salary dues of the last 12 months.
“We hope that as the CM unveils the budget for the coming year, the government also takes into account our plight as we have had to go without a salary for the last 12 months,” an employee told The Goan.
The employee pointed out that this is perhaps the first time that government employees had to go without salaries for a full year.
“We and our families are in a tight situation. We have been left with no option than to borrow money to meet our minimum needs. We have no idea when our ordeal will end”, another employee said, while keeping his fingers crossed over what lies in store for them in the new financial year.
