Power issues have cropped up at the South Goa district hospital over the last couple of days, with basic services such as lifts and air conditioners shut down for want of dedicated electric supply.
The two generators, each with 500 KVA capacity, enough to light up the hospital, has been put in operation, but has not been able to cater to the requirements. Sources said it has been also found that it cost huge money to run the generators.
Officials in the know have attributed the power problem to the moisture that has developed in the main High Tension electric panel of the district hospital. Sources pointed out that the moisture has developed in the electric panel for want of regular maintenance by an expert agency. “There’s a process by which the moisture has to be removed from the HT panel on a regular basis. If not, the situation will result in short circuit resulting in power outages,” a senior official.
GSIDC officials said it is purely for the management of South Goa district hospital to take a call on engaging a professional agency to look after the upkeep and maintenance of the HT panel and other power issues. “In the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, these issues are being looked after by a competent agency. Such an agency has not been engaged by the South Goa district hospital till date,” a GSIDC official said.
District hospital Medical Superintendent,Dr Deepa Correia was not available for comment, but Director of Health Services, Dr Ira Almeida said the district hospital authorities are seized of the matter and are attending to the power problem. “Hopefully, the issue will be resolved very soon,” Dr Ira stated.
Sources informed that the power generators have been able to maintain bare minimum illumination, but other services have gone haywire.
