South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday strongly demanded a total stop to the track doubling project at Majorda, saying the project cannot be allowed to continue forward from Majorda to Vasco by razing down houses and walls.
He also sounded a caution to the government on school reopening, saying that while parents want education for the wards there should be no fear in their minds that their children would not return back from school.
Addressing the media, he said it will not make any difference if the goods trains are made to halt for a couple of minutes for crossing at Majorda before they proceed to Vasco, Sardinha said the Congress government, when it comes to power in 2022, will scrap the double tracking project.
“If the double track has been laid at many place, let them remain. But, we will not allow laying of the double track from Majorda to Vasco via Velsao and Cansaulim through densely populated areas,” he said, adding that the Congress government may even take the back the land acquired by the BJP government for the project.
The MP further demanded that the BJP government keep the other linear projects on hold, saying the Congress has already vowed to scrap the linear projects when it comes to power in 2022.
The South Goa MP also demanded that the authorities not waste time to raze down the structure that have come up close the heritage structures at Old Goa. “If the house of a ruling politician has come close to the heritage complex and in violation of CRZ and ASI regulations, the authorities should not waste any time to raze down the structure,” he added.
Expressing shock over statistics showing Goa on the fourth spot in terms of road accidents, Sardinha said this does not augur well for the world famous State, when millions of visitors descended in the State every year. “We need good roads for the people to travel. The Chief Minister should see the pathetic condition of the roads in the state’s countryside and take remedial steps,” he said.
Saying that the traffic situation is worsening day by day on the Agassaim-Siridao stretch of the Zuari bridge, Sardinha said demanded the government deploy additional personnel to regulate traffic.
