Margao Municipality-owned garbage compactors have become a nuisance to motorists as well as pedestrians. Reason: Spillage of slurry from the compactors left the roads slippery, causing a couple of minor accidents on Friday.

Left with no option, the Municipal workers placed dry coconut leaves on the road to alert motorists, especially two-wheeler riders to avoid travelling on the slippery road.

Garbage workers informed that they face the brunt of the public due to the spillage of the slurry from the garbage compactors. A worker pointed out that spillage of slurry from the garbage compactors is not something new with complaints lodged to repair the vehicles fallen on deaf ears. “We have to face the ire of the public for no fault of ours when the issue of maintenance of the vehicles and compactors falls in the domain of higher officials. We hope the MMC officials will take cognizance of the accidents and ensure the compactors are provided with a water spillage tanker to prevent spillage,” remarked a garbage worker.
