OLD GOA
A delegation of St Estevam locals on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Director of Panchayats (DoP) to demand the long pending gram sabha at the earliest.
In the memorandum, the locals pointed out that it has been a long time since the last gram sabha was held while urging for the need to hold the meeting before the month ends.
The memorandum also pointed to the Tiswadi BDO order, in which the St Estevam panchayat was issued directions to hold the gram sabha on November 13.
“However, even after the order, the panchayat failed to convene the gram sabha,” a local Evaristo Rodrigues informed.
Another local, Mariano Ferrao, informed that there are various issues that needs to be discussed due to which holding of the gram sabha is of utmost importance.
“This is the reason why we have submitted the memorandum to the Director of Panchayats to issue directions to the panchayat authorities to convene the gram sabha before the month ends,” Ferrao stated.
Local panch Suzette Silveira informed that she was able to speak to the DoP over the phone and she has assured that she would issue directions to the panchayat secretary to convene the gram sabha.
