Miscreants desecrated the statue of St Joseph Vaz at Dicarpale village Monday night.

The miscreants brought down the statue and removed the cross from the hand.

As the police have initiated an inquiry, activist Freddy Travasso has suspected the incident to be the handiwork of miscreants. “It is apparent that someone is trying to play politics over religion. Yesterday, we have heard of the uproar at Porvorim. Last night, this incident has taken place at Dicarpale. I appeal to everyone not to play politics with religion,” he said.

The Maina-Curtorim police requisitioned the services of a police dog and finger print experts to assist in the investigation.
