Stage set for Monsoon session today

PANAJI

The Monsoon Session of the Goa legislature which is slated to begin from 11 am on Tuesday is set to be a stage for government versus Opposition confrontations in the face of a plethora of governance and public issues.

Although outnumbered, the Opposition is hoping to sharpen its attack on the Pramod Sawant government and its ministers over the course of the three-week session which will have 18 days of sittings until August 10.

MLAs have so far tabled over 3,000 starred and unstarred questions. In addition, members, particularly from the Opposition, are also expected to use other legislative tools such as calling attention motions and zero-hour mentions to elicit responses from the government on issues like the Mhadei water sharing dispute, price rise and inflation, the Smart City works, rising crime and road accidents among others.

With 18 sittings spread across the next three-and-half weeks, this will be the longest session of the Goa legislative assembly in six years.
