Buses and other vehicles using the new bridge under construction at Bendwada-Sanguem after a concrete mixing truck broke down on the middle of the old bridge.
Traffic on the main route at Bendawada-Sanguem came to a sudden halt on Wednesday morning after a concrete mixing truck stalled in the middle of the old bridge.
This blockage, which completely stopped heavy vehicles, prompted commuters and other office goers—including those in passenger buses—to take matters into their own hands.
Drivers began using the adjacent new bridge under construction as an immediate alternative route.
Although the approach roads of the new bridge are incomplete, the successful diversion demonstrated the necessity of the new structure.
Following the incident, locals and drivers reiterated their demand for the rapid completion and formal opening of the new bridge.
It is pertinent to note here that construction work of the parallel bridge at Bendwada Sanguem was started way back in 2018 but was halted on several occasions for varied reasons which included the Covid pandemic in 2020.
Incidentally while the bridge has been completed, authorities are facing the issue of approach road towards Dando side as the engineers failed to make provision for road access to Tarimol ward of Sanguem municipality located towards the Dando side of the parallel bridge.
