In a significant step towards improving waste management under the Swacch Bharat Gramin Mission 2.0, the Chicolna-Bogmalo panchayat has set up the State’s first Manned Transfer Station at the Chicolna Bus Stop.
The facility, which aims to streamline dry waste collection, was formally inaugurated by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho in the presence of Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale, Panchayat members, and officials from the Panchayats department.
Speaking to reporters, Godinho said this project would be replicated across Goa to prevent littering on the roads
“This is a novel project set up through the Panchayats department that will allow people to deposit their dry garbage. It is particularly convenient for passers by who can drop off their garbage at the station instead of littering the roads. This facility will complement the daily door-to-door garbage collection system already in place within the Panchayat,” said Godinho.
"The Manned Transfer Station, which will initially focus on collecting dry waste, will be supervised by an on-site attendant. Waste materials, such as plastic and bags, will be segregated at the centre to facilitate recycling efforts. This is a great initiative that we plan to replicate across Goa to ensure cleaner roads and proper dry waste management,” said Godinho
The panchayats minister also launched the 'POTI' initiative, a project led by the Goa Waste Management Corporation.
