In a memorandum to the Deputy Collector of Bardez and Anjuna police, HJS has urged the authorities to take action against people who sell T-shirts with pictures of Hindu deities on them.
“There is rampant sale of T-shirts with pictures of Hindu deities on them at popular Saturday night and Anjuna flea markets. The sale of such T-shirts denigrates the deities and thereby hurt religious sentiments of Hindus,” said Dr Manoj Solanki, State convener, HJS.
The HJS further said the then North Goa Collector S P Masurkar had imposed a ban in North Goa on sale of such T-shirts vide a notification in February 2009.
However, the then government notification was valid for six months and the government has failed to issue a fresh order in this regard, the convener said. “The HJS requests the government to immediately pass an ordinance banning the sale of the T-shirts forever, instead of only 6 months,” Solanki said.
The HJS delegation comprising Rohidas Malvankar, Pratap Virnekar, Shubha Sawant of Sanatan Sanstha and Rajashree Gadekar of HJS met the deputy collector and Anjuna PSI Yogesh Sawant.
