Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Panchayats play a key role in rural development and must be strengthened with proper facilities to ensure good governance. He was speaking at the inauguration of newly built Panchayat buildings in Morle and Keri villages of the Poriem constituency.
He said that faster rural development depends on empowering Panchayats with the right infrastructure and resources. The Goa government, he added, is working to strengthen local bodies and provide essential facilities. He also urged Panchayat members to implement schemes effectively and focus on solving the problems faced by common people.
The event was attended by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, MLA and Goa Forest Development Corporation Chairperson Dr Deviya Rane, Zilla Panchayat members Nilesh Parwar, Namdev Chari and Premnath Dalvi, social worker Vinod Shinde, Morle Sarpanch Amit Shirodkar, Keri Sarpanch Nandita Gawas, along with Panch members and other dignitaries.
The Chief Minister first inaugurated the building at Morle and later at Keri. He said the government is giving special attention to rural development, noting that many people in these areas depend on hard work for their livelihood. He stressed that Panchayats must address day-to-day issues, while the government will continue to support them and ensure proper implementation of welfare schemes. He encouraged both Panchayats to use the new buildings to plan and carry out development work.
Rural push: Vishwajit
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the government has rolled out several rural development schemes and is ensuring they reach all sections. He stressed that no one should be left out.
He added that rural areas are progressing fast and should have facilities on par with cities. Goa, he said, already fares well in healthcare, education, roads and water supply, and credited Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s leadership for the progress.
Issues resolved: Deviya
MLA Deviya Rane said Morle and Keri Panchayats had struggled for years due to poor infrastructure, but the new buildings have addressed these problems.
